And I need some clients!!!

Grrr. Too many car exspenses just killed my finances.

Real estate is a lot of hope and fear.

Shop Talk: (Gentry is an agent too)

I am still surprised by the number of people showing up at my open houses this late in December. They probably won't purchase until the new year, but my impression is that if they find the right place, they'll go for it.

HOWEVER; Listing inventory is even lower because traditionally people don't put their homes on the market now and those buyers are frustrated by that lack.

Finances are always exciting when one is looking for work everyday.

    OK...enough whining..

Hey EVERYBODY! Tell your friends to join us here. We even know lots of stuff that is worthwhile and we won't chase you for your telephone numbers, I promise.

Hanafi: are you sure they're showing up to see the houses or might they be lured in by your animal magnetism?

Any interest in blogging to get clients?

It's not immediate, but it's been effective for my wife.

I'm curious! How exactly does blogging for clients work?

Egads! If they find my blogs here I'm possibly in deep trouble.

Lets see..There's the Beefcake one, Exchanging Spouses, Promos for my Baltic Room gig, a put down of Realtor designations, etc., etc. Just who am I attracting?! ;>)

BTW, I googled my tribe name and ALL those posts and blogs show up. Now that is startling. One's words live FOREVER.

Actually I feel really fortunate that I have done business with 4 people from Tribe. I guess I'm destined to be a bit "counter cultural", although I do deal with lots of "mainstream" folk as well. Hmmm.. not that my tribe clients are necessarily counter-cultural..maybe "sub-cultural"..no that doesn't sound good either!

Then, of course there is attracting people with my animal magentism! (Thanks Pixie!) Perhaps I need to shift my demographic emphasis to locations where I meet single girls. But I digress....

I am curious about how the blogging for clients works too.

I know what you mean Pak! When the line between personal and professional gets blurred... I don't mind letting other tribers know that I'm a Realtor, but I would hesitate to point my other clients to my tribe profile.

Stuff really does live on forever on the internet. When I google my full name there is a 10 year old usenet vote still out there.

I can see the advantage of having a blog specifically having to do with Seattle real estate separate from any personal profiles and blogs. Although keeping it updated might be a challenge.

Well, there are no one way to blog for clients...

My wife and I have been running Rain City Guide for almost a year now, and it's been a great way for us to build up communication with potential clients. By posting a ton of articles on the topic of seattle real estate, we get a ton of hits from people searching for local real estate information.

Some agents who blog really focus on describing their listings or how they deal with different clients. We've tried to give a little more background on Seattle and, in particular, the Ballard area, as well as describing some of the reasons people might move to Seattle. There is definitely no "one-way" to blog...

If people are interested, I'd be happy to go into more detail, and if you're Seattle-area based, I would even consider letting you blog on Rain City Guide. One of the agents was so pleasantly surprised with the leads that she got through the site, that she started giving my wife a referral fee even though we were just happy that she was posting interesting articles!

I'd love to have the opportunity to contribute.

Maybe Gentry, Kristn & I could alternate entries. That would be kind of fun. Different viewpoints of different markets, situations, etc.

I really like that idea... and I'd be very interested in featuring some of your commentary!

We've been really focusing on North Seattle (since that is the area we know best!), but we're definitely interested in featuring some writers from other parts of Seattle! The best way to get you set-up with an account is if you email me at:

            dustin [at] raincityguide.com.

If you check out the site, you'll probably notice that we don't have a lot of rules for posting. There's a lawyer who's been writing about some interesting legal issues, a mortgage broker who likes to talk about what it is like to get clients, my wife, Anna, pretty much sticks to Ballard issues, while I tend to focus on technical issues (like real estate search technologies). The only types of posts I'd discourage are posts that simply describe an agent's listing. I've seen a lot of real estate blogs that post listings and it's just not all that interesting to read.

If you're still interested in posting, please don't hesitate to email me!

Out of curiosity, who would the target audience be for said blog? If I were to roll back six months to the never-bought-house-before me, I would have been keenly interested in taking a lookie at my potential agent's blog. Sure, Hanafi is a pretty face - but is there brain behind beauty?

Just don't go for an angle like the evil Krypton trio from Superman...the ones encased in glass and plotting naughtiness.

I started writing my a response here about my experience with real estate blogging and it grew into a post on Rain City Guide: www.raincityguide.com/2005/12...to-blog/ I have some additional comments that didn't fit in the blog post, but might be interesting for this group. I'll see if I can summarize them tomorrow.

For the real estate agents out there, I've been writing some more tips on blogging for real estate... Rather than repeat myself here, I'd just thought I'd give everyone a heads up to this category of posts: www.raincityguide.com/categor...-advice/

By the way, if you're interested in taking part in this blogging experiment of mine, feel free to email me!
